Helotes Has Two Kinds of Homes — We Service Both
Helotes sits where San Antonio's urban growth meets the Texas Hill Country, about 20 miles northwest of downtown along Bandera Road (SH 16). Our office is at 9355 Bandera Rd. — the same road that runs straight through your town. From our shop up to the Bandera/Scenic Loop intersection is a straight shot up SH 16.
Here's the thing about Helotes that makes it different from most of our service areas: water service is split. Some Helotes homes are on SAWS, which serves portions of the city as well as the surrounding Bexar County area. Others — especially larger-lot properties, older homes, and homes out in the ETJ along Scenic Loop Rd., Old Bandera Rd., and the more rural stretches — are on private wells pulling from the Trinity Aquifer.
That distinction matters. SAWS homes deal with chlorinated, hard Edwards Aquifer water. Well homes deal with unchlorinated, often very hard Trinity Aquifer water, plus pumps, pressure tanks, and occasionally iron or sulfur issues that city-water homes never see. We handle both — and we'll ask which one you have before we give you a quote, because the answer changes what you actually need.
Chlorinated City Water
If you're on SAWS in Helotes, your water comes mostly from the Edwards Aquifer — it's hard, it's chlorinated, and it's fluoridated. Common issues: scale buildup in water heaters, short fixture life, dry skin and hair from chlorine. A water softener plus a de-chlorinator handle both.
Private Trinity Aquifer Wells
If you're on a well, your water comes from the Trinity Aquifer — "fresh but very hard" per the Texas Water Development Board. Common issues: pump failures, pressure tank problems, very high hardness, and sometimes iron or sulfur. Well homes need softeners sized differently than city-water homes.
Plumbing Services in Helotes
Every service below — for both SAWS homes and well homes. Call us for a phone quote on most jobs.
Water Heaters
HELOTES NOTE
Hard water — whether from SAWS or a Trinity well — punishes tank water heaters. We install and repair tank and tankless systems. For homes on wells with very hard water, we often recommend a softener ahead of any heater replacement.

HELOTES NOTE
Trinity Aquifer water tests harder than Edwards water. If you're on a private well in Helotes, a standard off-the-shelf softener may undersize the job. We size it for your actual water.
Learn more →De-Chlorinator Systems
HELOTES NOTE
Only needed for SAWS homes (well water isn't chlorinated). Installed ahead of a softener, a de-chlorinator extends softener resin life by years and fixes the "pool smell" some SAWS customers notice.
Learn more →Pressure Regulating Valves
HELOTES NOTE
SAWS pressure in the Helotes area can be high, especially in homes on higher elevations near Loop 1604. A properly set PRV protects fixtures and extends plumbing life. Well homes use pressure tanks instead — different setup, same goal.

HELOTES NOTE
Mature trees along Helotes Creek and older properties often mean roots in sewer lines. We clear clogs and run camera inspections to find the cause. Homes on septic have separate needs — we can diagnose whether a clog is a drain issue or a septic issue.

HELOTES NOTE
Larger Helotes lots mean longer yard lines — and more places for a leak to hide. We use electronic leak detection to pinpoint the leak before any digging starts.

Our office is at 9355 Bandera Rd., Ste. 112 — about a 20-minute drive up SH 16 to the heart of Helotes in typical traffic. We're familiar with the full stretch from Loop 1604 north through the Bandera/Scenic Loop intersection and into the ETJ.
- Areas we cover: Helotes city limits plus the ETJ along SH 16 and FM 1560, the Scenic Loop area, and neighborhoods on both sides of Bandera Rd. between Loop 1604 and Grey Forest.
- We service well-water homes. Not every San Antonio plumber does. We work on submersible pump systems, pressure tanks, and well-water softener setups regularly.
- Phone quotes for most services. We'll ask whether you're on SAWS or a well first — it changes the answer.
- Same-day service for most non-emergency Helotes calls placed during business hours.
- Licensed master plumbers — not subcontractors. The Walker family has been doing this work since 1977.
- 10% discount for seniors, military, teachers, and first responders.

Helotes Plumbing FAQs
Do you service homes on private wells in Helotes?
Yes. We work on submersible well pumps, jet pumps, pressure tanks, and well-water softener systems regularly. Not every San Antonio plumber does — but a significant share of Helotes homes (especially in the ETJ and along Scenic Loop) are on private Trinity Aquifer wells, so it comes with the territory here. Let us know it's a well home when you call and we'll quote accordingly.
How do I know if I'm on SAWS or a private well?
A few ways. First, check your bills — SAWS customers get a monthly water bill from San Antonio Water System. Well owners don't. Second, look at where your water supply enters the home: if there's a pressure tank in a garage, pump house, or utility closet (a tall or horizontal tank with a pressure gauge on it), you're on a well. If the main supply line comes straight from a meter at the curb, you're on SAWS. If you're still unsure, we can tell within a minute on-site.
How fast can you get to my home in Helotes?
Our office is on Bandera Rd. south of Loop 1604 — the same SH 16 corridor that runs right through Helotes. In typical traffic, we can be in most Helotes neighborhoods in about 20 minutes. During business hours we book same-day service for most non-emergency calls.
Is Trinity Aquifer well water harder than SAWS water?
Usually yes. The Texas Water Development Board classifies Trinity Aquifer water as "fresh but very hard" — often harder than the already-hard Edwards Aquifer water that SAWS delivers. If you're on a well in Helotes and you don't have a water softener, you're almost certainly seeing shortened water heater life, scale buildup on fixtures, and soap that won't lather well. A properly sized softener fixes all of that.
Do you do well pump repair or replacement?
Yes. Submersible pumps typically last 10-15 years; pressure tanks last 10-20. The most common well issues we see in Helotes are short-cycling (pressure tank has lost its air charge), no water at all (pump failure or pressure switch), and low pressure (failing pump or clogged system). Call us and describe what's happening — we can often diagnose it over the phone.
My house is on septic — can you still help?
Yes, for the plumbing side. We handle drain cleaning and camera inspections of the lines between your home and the septic tank, and we can diagnose whether a backup is a drain problem (we handle it) or a septic tank problem (you'll want a septic service for pumping the tank itself). For homes on septic, we also recommend skipping garbage disposals and being careful what goes down the kitchen sink.
Do you give discounts to seniors, military, teachers, or first responders?
Yes — 10% off service for seniors, active-duty and veteran military, K-12 and college teachers, and first responders (police, fire, EMS). Just mention it when you call.
